ABOUT THE SHOW

The Turn of the Screw by Jeffrey Hatcher is based on Henry James’s 1898 gothic novella of the same name. The story concerns a young Governess, who ventures to an English country estate to care for Miles and Flora, orphans living under the care of their wealthy but distant uncle. Upon her arrival, she finds a situation far more challenging than she could have ever expected.

REVIEWS

Mike Ross, Gigcity.ca (5/5 stars)

“Shanni Pinkerton and Darrell Portz, in formal period costume, play all the characters – the slimy rich uncle who wants nothing to do with domestic life, the innocent governess, the creepy kids – and they are astounding.”

“The scene lulls you into a false sense that this might be a lighter piece than it seems, and then they hit you with one gut-wrenching twist after another. Indeed, the story lives up to its title, as with each passing day, with each “turn of the screw,” the hapless governess becomes more and more unhinged. From a fairly well-mannered build-up, screams fill the theatre. The performances from both actors at the climactic point are harrowing.”

Roger Levesque, Edmonton Journal (4/5 stars)

“It’s the haunting good tale that pulls the audience along.”

“This two-person performance is a stellar slow burn that leads up to an energetic ending.”

Jessamyn Stewart, Vue Weekly (5/5 stars)

“This flawless performance was presented with such strength and conviction, encouraging a rigid attentiveness from the whole audience and moments of true fear.”

Audience comments, Vue Weekly

“This play is absolutely fantastic…10/10 would recommend, it’ll keep you on the edge of your seat.” – Christian

“So well done. You must see this show. Can I only give 5 stars?” – Chris

“It was incredible! The talent in this show is just amazing! Delivery and energy was impeccable. Amazingly written script, beautiful costumes and fantastic lighting. It’s fast paced, quick witted, and a complex plot that just takes you right in. Loved it, see it!!!” – Wylee

“The costumes are period and looked fantastic and the lighting was on point setting the thoughts of forestry, blue skies, or lake…even with the play time of 75 minutes, the show seemed much shorter because of how fluid everything came together and the great work of the actors and lighting crew pulling you into the world.” – J
